about

Past Utopia is the third solo album of Tilman Ehrhorn originally released at Neo Ouija in 2011.

The manufacturing process of Past Utopia is based on sample work and software but besides the virtual sound design, instruments like vintage analogue synthesizers and electric guitars are used as a source of sound.

Most of the tracks on Past Utopia are musically inspired through British Pop Music. The beginning of the Psychedelic/Progessive Rock era of the late 60´s, including groups lush as Pink Floyd, Genesis, Tomorrow and Yes might be as well a big influence as conceptional productions of the early and mid-eighties, like Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Depeche Mode and Talk Talk.

Therefore the idea behind Past Utopia is to introduce music that doesn't fit into the stereotypical attributes of electronic music. Instead, Tilman has crafted abstract and modified instrumental pop songs that combine the spirit of different musical epochs with an individual idea of electronic music.
